Whilst many of my early school friends enjoyed school holidays going to hotels and flying to exotic locations with their families, my usual childhood holiday entailed strapping a pack to my back and hiking through the Victorian wilderness with my family for days on end.
I was first introduced to photography as a child when my father would allow me to take photos with our trusty Minolta XG1 on our regular hikes. Slide night has always been one of my favourite memories, where me and my father would often enjoy friendly competition identifying peaks and mountains, and who took “that” photo.
These are my most treasured memories, and are what fuelled my passion for photography.
In particular, film photography.
It would take me until the mid 2010’s to finally make the move to digital photography.
I am very far from a professional photographer. I have had very little formal training, and I like to experiment and work things out on location.
Whilst I enjoy capturing your run of the mill landscapes, what really fuels my passion is low light photography, extended exposures, and capturing angles of places that make familiar places seem unfamiliar. If anything, this website is not intended to show you the most incredible landscape and low light photos you have ever seen, but to serve as a journal documenting my journey as an amateur photographer, and my constant improvement and experimentation.
I am based on the north west coast of Tasmania. When I’m not exploring our wilderness with my camera, I work in youth support, play guitar, collect vinyl, and enjoy spending time with my family and our cat Billy Bob.
