I’m not 100% happy with this photo, but I’m very happy to put my name on it and call it mine. I’m still very much an Astrophotography novice, but for someone who has learned everything I know from YouTube, it’s not bad.
On this night, I was driving towards Sheffield in Tasmania, hoping to capture some night sky over Mt Roland, however the clouds set in and left me shivering my butt off on the side of the road at a lookout halfway between Spreyton and Sheffield. I took a couple of snaps between what gaps remained between the clouds in the sky before I spotted a radio tower nearby, and a very enticing gap between the clouds above.
The end result was a bit of a surprise. I tried lighting the radio tower with my weak iPhone torch (which worked pretty well I must say!), but it was when a car drove past midway through a 10 second exposure with their highbeams on that really made the radio tower pop.
I could have done better in the focus department, but this 50mm f/1.4 6400 ISO 10 second exposure did pretty well.
If anything, it’s something I’m going to enjoy looking back on in a few years to remember how far I’ve come.
